Arthur O. Fannin, 91, of Minford, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Heartland of Portsmouth.

 

Born Jan. 2, 1918, in Pike County, Ky., to the late Monroe and Flossie Fannin. On Jan. 25, 1942, he married Violet Ruth Wymer and they have lived in the Minford area all their lives.

 

He is survived by his wife, Violet; his daughter, Janet Ruth (Roger) Bobst; granddaughter, Sandra (Dwayne) Wysocki Slusher, and greatgrandson, Dylan Slusher. He is also survived by one brother, Chester (Clara) Fannin of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Gladys Godfrey of Marysville, Ohio, and Bertha Sanns of Marblehead, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.

 

Mr. Fannin was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Teddie Fannin, and four sisters, Ulia Fannin, Inas Rick, Ethel Burdette and Clifton Mae Bitzer. He was a graduate of Minford High School in the class of 1936. He was a Purple Heart Army Veteran of World War II. He was retired from White's Pharmacy in New Boston, Valley Wholesale Co. and E.J. Kenrick's, both in Portsmouth. He was a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart No.

 

500 in Columbus, Ohio, life member of the AMVETS, member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 3268 in Plain City, Ohio, member of Masonic Order of Demolay No. 465 in Lucasville, life member of UTC No. 011, and organized and served on the board of directors of the Rainbow Girls in Lucasville. He was also a member of AARP.

 

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Pastor Daryl Grimes officiating. Burial will be at Bennett Cemetery in Minford.

 

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. There will be a Purple Heart service at 7 p.m.

 

Friday followed by a Masonic service at 8 p.m. by Lucasville Lodge No. 465. Graveside military rites will be conducted by James Irwin Post 622American Legion. In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to your favorite charity in his memory.
