Eddie L. Moore, 62, of Wheelersburg, passed away at Chillicothe Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Chillicothe on Feb. 29, 2012. He was born May 25, 1949, to Bert D. and Telacie O. Moore.

He was a 1967 graduate of Portsmouth High School, a 1975 graduate of Ohio University and obtained a master’s degree from the University Rio Grande. He was a veteran serving in the Army in Germany and Vietnam.

He is survived by two sons, Andrew, of Boston, Mass., and Kelly, of Portsmouth ; a grandson, Stephan; a brother, Pastor Larry Moore and his wife Patricia of McDermott, Ohio; and a special friend, Linda Poage; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was a teacher and coach for over 35 years at several schools including Portsmouth, Minford, New Boston, Zane Trace and Northwest school systems.

Eddie was a great encourager. Many of his students/players will still tell you that he inspired them to become more than they thought they could be. He was an Ohio High School Athletic Association baseball and softball umpire for over 32 years.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 3638, American Legion Post 23, Disabled American Veterans Victory Chapter 134, Aurora Lodge 48 F&AM Masons, Scottish Rite, Valley of Cincinnati, and the York Rite of Portsmouth. He was a member of Christ’s Community Church.

He had a great sense of humor and loved life, family, friends and the church. He will be missed.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2012, at Christ’s Community Church with Pastor Scott Rawlings officiating. Interment will be in Friendship Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Honor Detail of James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Visitation will be 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday at F.C. Daehler Mortuary Company in Portsmouth and one hour before the service on Sunday at the church. A Masonic funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday following visitation.
