Grace (Jo) Gertrude Young, 84, of Minford, Ohio, died Oct. 8, 2011, at SOMC Hospice Center. Grace was born to the late Alonzo Dudley & Grace Sullivan Alexander on February 12, 1927, in Springfield, Ohio. She married the late Ettsal Warren (E.W.) Young on May 19,1944.

Grace was a waitress at the former Village Grill in Minford, then became a cook at the old Madison school in Minford. After that she went to work for Scioto County Community Action Organization as a preschool teacher at Eden Park Head Start until she retired in 2003. She impacted many young children lives during her life.

Grace was a Cub Scout Den Mother, was a member of James Irwin Post 622 American Legion’s Ladies Auxiliary, and a very active Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. She loved to crochet, write poetry, and make crafts for her family and friends.

Grace is survived by her six children Warren and Barb Young, John D. Young, William (Tom) Young, Tammy L. Collier, Anita and John Carter, Sharon S. Young; two granddaughters whom she helped raise Amanda G. Carter and Alexandra G-J Young. She is also survived by 13 other grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving sister, Omega Sipe, who raised her from a small girl; one grandson, Ryan Keith Young; one great grandson, Zachary Tyler Rhoden; three brothers, John, Frank, Edward; two other sisters; Juanita, Nancy Newman, and one half brother, Joseph.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, and an hour earlier before services on Thursday.
