LUCILLE MIRIAM JENKINS
February 29, 1920 - October 6, 2016

Lucille Miriam Jenkins, age 96 of Portsmouth, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at SOMC Hospice. She was born February 29, 1920 in Elliott County, KY to Orlea and Sally (Smith) Whitley. A 1937 graduate of Minford High School and former employee of Williams Manufacturing Company, she loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Berean Baptist Church in Sciotoville. She played both piano and organ, played for the Youth Group at church, and taught Sunday School. Lucille was an amazing homemaker, known for her cooking, sewing, quilting, and crocheting. She had an inquiring mind and was a master crossword player and an expert at Bible trivia. More than anything, she loved to spend time with her family.

She is survived by four daughters, Mary Ann (Dr. Thomas) Brackey of Los Angeles, CA, Linda Lou (Larry) Hawkins of Cincinnati, Nancy Dale (Larry) Bower of Portsmouth, Sarah Maxine (Anthony) De Prima of Fairport, NY; four grandsons, Thomas (Catherine) Brackey II, Larry (Donna) Hawkins, Jr., Lee (Michele) Bower, Jeffrey Chapman; three granddaughters, Teresa (Dr. Joe) Evans, Kelly (Bill) Johnson, Kimberly (John) Henry; sixteen great-grandchildren, Archer and Griffin Brackey, Daniel, Alex, Lauren, and Grant Hawkins, Clark and Ross Evans, Clay, Carson, and Carly Johnson, Evan Bower, Patrick and Cecila Chapman, Sydney and Rachel Henry; one brother, Orlea W. Whitley, Jr of Wheelersburg; two sisters, Juanita Holbrook and Rosemary (Wesley) Kelley; two sisters-in-law, Bettie Whitley and Sue Whitley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Elsworth Jenkins in 1996; three brothers, Lowell, Russell, and Donald Whitley; two sisters, Verla Conrad and Maxine Clifford;

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 10, 2016 at WOLFE-NELSON FUNERAL HOME in Sciotoville with Pastor Harry Ramsey officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace. Friends may call from 12 - 1 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Berean Baptist Church.
