June 2010

Greetings! Summer is officially here today! Although the school year has come to a close the summer support staff is working hard to prepare the buildings for the 2010-2011 school year.

One of the bigger projects that you will notice is the blacktop sealing of all the District parking lots. This project will help the District preserve the asphalt areas. The asphalt sealing company has filled the cracks, repaired a drain tile replacement fix and is applying 2-3 coats of sealer. The finishing touch is the application of the yellow parking lines and the traffic control markings. I think you will agree this makes a dramatic appearance for our buildings and grounds.

The District is participating in a lighting and electric conservation program through House Bill 264 (HB264). This energy savings project was recommended through the Ohio Auditor of State performance audit in 2008. The project includes lighting upgrades (ballasts, energy efficient bulbs) Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems and controls.

You will notice a difference in the lighting, a much brighter whiter light, in the classrooms and gymnasiums. Lighting & HVAC sensors have been installed in the rooms and will monitor occupancy and temperature, keeping the rooms at a comfortable 72 degrees plus or minus 2 degrees.

I hope you are having a great summer, enjoy time with family and always look for those educational experiences and teachable moments.
