WILLIAM F. BOYER
September 8, 1936 - March 6, 2017
 

WHEELERSBURG — William F. Boyer, 80, of Wheelersburg, passed away Monday, March 6, 2017. Mr. Boyer was born September 8, 1936 to the late Alfred and Jessie Lindeman Boyer in Wheelersburg.

 

He was a member of Wheelersburg High School class of 1955. While attending Wheelersburg he was very active, he was in the band, junior class play and served as vice-president of his senior class. He participated in baseball, basketball and football. He taught for eleven years in the Wheelersburg School system, serving as an assistant football coach under Andy Hopkins and under Harold Mullins. He became head football coach in 1964 and held that position for six years. While at Wheelersburg, Bill also coached baseball, boys' and girls' track. He started the girls' track team in 1968-69, the first sports program for girls at Wheelersburg in many, many years. His teams were very successful. He also started the Pee Wee football program in 1967.

 
After leaving Wheelersburg Local Schools, William went to Minford Schools, serving as elementary principal and as superintendent of schools. In 1974, Bill and two partners started the Minford Pharmacy, Inc. where he served as President. Bill also worked for Pilasco-Ross Center helping to organize an early childhood education program for ages 3 to 5 years of age in Scioto, Pike, Lawrence and Ross counties.
 
After retiring in 1987, he was selected by the Eisenhower Foundation to go to China to make a comparison between the educational systems of China and the United States. In 1996, he received his private pilot's license and belongs to the Greater Portsmouth Pilots Association and the Aircraft Owners Pilots Association. Bill's honors and accomplishments include Football MVP his senior year; President, Minford Pharmacy, Inc.; 32 Degree Mason; Member, Lion's Club and Eisenhower Foundation Educator; military, eight years Naval Reserves; ten years Chairman of Scioto county Selective Service Draft Board and member of the American Legion. Bill's education includes Bachelor's Degree in Education from Eastern Kentucky University, 1959; Master's degree from Eastern Kentucky University, 1964; post graduate work in school administration and counseling, Ohio University, Marshall University and Xavier University.
 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Boyer and a sister, Jane Boyer.

Bill is survived by his wife, Carol Randall Boyer, also a graduate of Wheelersburg High School; a son William David Boyer; a daughter, Tracy Boyer Perkins; a brother, Dave Boyer; a sister, Alice Ann Adams and five grandchildren, Justin and Austin Boyer; Marissa, Breanna and Karah Perkins and many nieces and nephews. Bill loved and lived for his nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Friday, March 10, 2017 at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg, Ohio with Micah McAlister and Scott Williams officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Thursday, March 9, 2017 and one hour before the service on Friday. There will be a Masonic Service at 8:00 pm Thursday. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in honor of Karah Perkins to the SOMC Development Foundation, Juvenile Diabetes Fund, 2201 25th Street, Portsmouth, OH.
