From the Desk of the Superintendent
Welcome! It’s now March 4th and the sunshine is abundant today! Warmer temperatures are forecast for the weekend, I hope I will not see snow in the forecast for a very long time!
Many great things are happening here in the District. I would like to highlight a few activities. The Elementary students participated in a Read-a-Thon to raise money for earthquake stricken Haiti. The students joined forces with the following schools, Wheelersburg, Green and New Boston. They created a competition to see what school could raise the most money per student per book read. I am ecstatic to write that our Elementary students from Minford raised $4726.76 equivalent to $6.69 a student and we won the competition! Their combined efforts raised $10,100.26! Mr. Evans was told this money will feed 1,616 children for a month! Congratulations to the students of Minford Elementary, GREAT JOB!
Another important activity occurred at the High School, specifically our seniors who pledged that their life is more important than a text message. This program was instigated by Mrs. Nickel when she saw the program on Oprah. She showed this program to her class and they accepted the pledge and it spread to the senior class. Minford was featured on Oprah last week. Congrats to Mrs. Nickel and the senior class.
Please allow me to switch gears for my next topic and important message to parents. This morning an accident occurred at Bond Rd. and St. Rt. 335. I’m sure you already know this is a dangerous intersection. I am so thankful that our High School student was not seriously hurt. She had bumps, cuts and bruises and from what I’ve been told will recover from the accident. I thank the Minford Fire Department and the EMS crew for their quick response.
The message I want to convey, during school hours of operation I urge you to be very careful when executing turns in and out of this area as well as the school entrances. If your child drives to school please take the time to tell them to be careful we would rather they be late than in an accident.
Get out and enjoy the warmer weather! Be careful!
