Another Scioto County soldier has made the supreme sacrifice while fighting with the U.S. forces that were based in north Africa.

He was Pfc. Adam Culp, son of William and Artie Culp of White Gravel, northeast of Minford. According to word sent the parents by the war department, the son was killed in action Aug. 9. Compairson of dates with American troops in action in the north Africa sector cause the parents to believe the son lost his life in the invasion of Sicily.

Pfc. Culp was an only son and had worked on the farm before entering service.

Besides his parents, he leaves three married sisters, Mrs. Violet Deemer at home, who works in Jackson, Mrs. hazel Deemer and Evalena, also in Scioto County.

Parents Seek Details on Death of Scioto Soldier

Mr. and Mrs. William Culp of the White Gravel sector northeast of Minford continue their efforts to obtain more information from the war department on the death of their son, Pfc. Adam Culp, reported killed in action in the north Africa war theater several weeks ago.

The parents last letter from the soldier son was dated July 30 in Sicily and since he was on the island at that time the relatives hold the opinion that he probably met death in the invasion of the mainland of Italy or in the early days of the fighting following the invasion.

The casualty leaves his parents and three married sisters, Mrs. Violet Deemer of White Gravel, who works in Jackson, Mrs. Hazel Deemer of Rushtown Rt. 1, and Mrs. Evelina Doss, 2337 Eighth St., this city.

A third cousin of the soldier, Pvt. John Culp, son of Mr. and Mrs. Simon Culp of White Gravel, was wounded in action in the South Pacific several months ago. He was wounded seriously, but has recovered sufficiently to be dismissed from an army hospital. The parents were notified that he may not be physically able to remain in the service but have not been notified of his arrival back in the States.
