In Memory of
Arthur Yeagle

Taken from the 1974 - 1975 MPS Yearbook

Mr. Yeagle graduated from the Minford Local School District in 1934.  He began teaching in the district in 1936 until his death in 1974, serving the community and school for 36 years during which he also served in the armed forces two years.  He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Rio Grande College and a Masters of Arts degree from Marshall University.

Mr. Yeagle was dedicated to his profession and colleagues, but most of all to his students in which he had faith and the students had mutual trust and understanding for him.  He felt that each person had a role in life and that each life was important.  His well known philosophy was that all students would not be teachers, lawyers, or doctors; but whatever their position he tried to impress upon them to take pride in themselves and to do their best.  He often did and said things that encouraged them to succeed.  The students' need for a good concept of oneself was always foremost in his thoughts; his patience and understanding touched many lives in Minford Local Schools.

Mr. Yeagle is remembered as being a friendly individual who never failed to welcome a newcomer to the community.  Part of his personality was that almost forgotten virtue of being courteous.

He was often frustrated that a few students did not achieve as high a score as he had wished for them; however, he was always gratified by the progress of a student even though it did not prevail on a test score.  Although he illustrated other examples by which the student had profited.

Needless to say, Mr. Yeagle was interested in his students.  He would venture to any resource to help him better understand his students.  He was often found at the guidance counselor's office discussing a particular student.  Perhaps his interest began with having five of his own children and as they grew his concern transferred to students.

Mr. Yeagle worked with students and teachers at the middle school who found him both cooperative and flexible to meet any situation.

Mr. Yeagle saw children as individuals; he would always talk with his students individually, making comments about their dress, their smile, or some personal element.

Mr. Yeagle loved Minford, the area, the people and the school.  He had a deep concern for all three an an understanding of each.

Mr. Yeagle will be missed and remembered by all who come in contact with his contagious spirit.
