Captain Henry Lantz, Undertaker

February 22, 1831 - August 15, 1915 

Captain Henry Lantz was born February 22, 1831 in Athens County, Ohio. 

On December 21, 1852, he married Lovina Bennett , daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Mills Bennett.  After his marriage, Captain Lantz located three miles from McArthur, and engaged in milling.  He was there until 1857 when he moved to McArthur.  In 1857, he returned to Scioto County.

On April 27, 1861, he enlisted in Company G, 22nd OVI at the age of thirty for three months.  he was made a Sergeant and mustered out August 19, 1861.  He entered Company F, 56th OVI November 21, 1861 as First Lieutenant.  He was mustered out November 21, 1864 at New Orleans on expiration of his term of service.  March 14, 1865 he was appointed Captain of Company K, 194th OVI for one year and served with the Company until October 24, 1865. 

After his discharge, he went to McArthur and engaged in the undertaking business.  In the year 1866, he went to Bennett's Mills, Kentucky and spent four years there as an undertaker and a carpenter.  

In 1873 he returned to Harrison Township and continued his business as an undertaker and a carpenter.
