Dr. Thomas Homer McCann, MD
September 9, 1864 - September 3, 1937

Dr. Thomas Homer McCann, MD was born near Mt. Joy in Pike County, Ohio on September 9, 1864.  His father was Henry McCann and his mother's maiden name was Amanda Lawwill.  He was the grandson of John McCann and Mary Rose McCann.  Mary Rose McCann's father was a surgeon in the Revolutionary War.

Thomas was educated in the common schools and attended the North Liberty Academy in 1882 and 1888.  He attended a Normal school in Piketon in 1884.  He taught in public schools from 1882 to 1890. 

He began the study of medicine in 1890 with Doctors Berry and Wittenmyer of Peebles, Ohio.  He attended medical lectures at Louisville, Kentucky in the School of Medicine there for one year.  He graduated from the Louisville Medical School on June 21, 1894.  He first located in Louden, Adams County, Ohio in March 1895. 

He was married on June 5, 1895 to Hattie Coriell, daughter of William B. Coriell of Harrison Township.  They had one child, Ida May.  Hattie died on April 27, 1896.  Thomas was married a second time on November 27, 1901 to Lida B. Coriell, Hattie's sister.

Dr. McCann was a Democrat at his political views until 1896, and after that became a republican.  He was a member of the Christian Church at Mt. Joy.  He wa also a member of the Masonic Lodge at Lucasville and the Knights of Pythias at Harrisonville.

Dr. Wells Coriell McCann was the son Thomas and Lida B. Coriell.

Dr. Wells Coriell McCann was born on July 13, 1907.  He was the son of Thomas Homer McCann & Lida E. Coriell McCann.

Dr. McCann practiced medicine in Minford from 1935 to 1945. 

Dr. McCann graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1935.  His wife's name was Velma E. Marshall McCann.

HEART ATTACK IS FATAL TO DR. MCCANN

Dr. Wells Coriell McCann, 66, of 7920 Gallia Pike, Wheelersburg, a well-known physician and amateur motion picture photographer, died at his home at 5:05 p.m. Friday after suffering an apparent heart attack.

A native of Minford, he had practiced medicine in Scioto County for more than 32 years.

Dr. McCann also was well known as an inventor, his most successful invention being a synchronization system, where a tape recorder could be synchronized with a motion picture projector.

He graduated from Ohio State University in 1930 and University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1934.  He served his internship at Grant Hospital in Columbus.

Dr. McCann started his first practice in Minford in 1935, later moving to Wheelersburg in 1945.  He was a staff member at Southern Hills Hospital. 

He was a member of the Scioto County Medical Association, American Medical Association, Scioto County Board of Health, American Chapter of Institute of Amateur Cinematrographers, Wheelersburg Camera Club and Elks Lodge.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Velma Marshall McCann; a son, Thomas Wells McCann at home, a student at Ohio University; a daughter, Mrs. Sarah Jane Morgan, 1502 1/2 Charles Street, an art teacher at Grant Junior High School; a brother, Albert McCann of Cincinnati, and a sister, Mrs. Maye Sharrock of Columbus.

Services are to be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Harrison Funeral Home with Rev. Emerson Flannery officiating.  Interment is to be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 tonight.
