Glades School - Harrison Township

There were two Glades Schools in the area.  One Glades School was located in Harrison Township, and the other Glades School was located in Madison Township.   Glades Harrison was built in 1875.

The Portsmouth Times, July 31, 1875, page 1:
(This was apparently a new building for the current Glades school.) 

In 1883 the Directors were Charles Frowine, Nathaniel Rogers and John Devers.  There were 41 pupils enrolled at that time.  

In 1903 the teacher earned $30 per month.   The school year lasted six months.

Glades Harrison property as it stands in 2020.

The house pictured below is the original Glades school house built in 1875.  Around 1937, the building was remodeled.  At that time, an upstairs and porches were added by Paul Rase.  Paul Rase and his wife, Mae Rase, lived in this house their entire married life. 

The property is still in the Rase family and is currently (2020) owned by Chris Rase.  Chris Rase is the fifth generation in the family to own the property. 

The school bell in the photo is the original Glades Harrison School Bell.
