Howard Darrel Nance, 69, ofMinford, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 10, 2009, at SOMC Hospice.

 

He was born April 22, 1940, to Howard and Mamie Nance ofMinford. Preceding him in death were father, Howard Nance; mother, Mamie Nance; two brothers-in-law, George Shonkwiler and Curtis Conkel; one son-in-law, Terry Higgins; and a special great-nephew, Jared Dever.

 

He is survived by four daughters, Lynn (Matt) Holtzapfel of Marysville, Pam Higgins of Rosemount, Shannon Nance of Germany, and Lacey Nance of Texas; six grandsons, Adam Holtzapfel (Jennifer Nye) and Alex Holtzapfel, both of Marysville, Josh (Mandy) Higgins ofMinford, Aaron Smith, Bryan Spencer, and Christian Nance; one granddaughter, Lillie Bowie; two great - granddaughters, Kameryn and Skylar Higgins; two sisters, Wilma Shonkwiler and Betty Conkel ofMinford; seven nephews, four nieces, many great-nephews and nieces, and some great-great-nephews and nieces.

 

He graduated from Min-fordHighSchoolin 1958, spent eight years in UFASS, three years in Germany, and 14 months in Vietnam. He worked for the U.S. Government and retired in 1991. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in San Angelo, Texas, for over 15 years, served two years as church secretary, and three years as church usher. He moved from San Angelo, Texas, to Marysville, Ohio, in 1996. He retired from Social Security in 2002 and moved back home inMinford, Ohio. He has attended Rubyville Community Church since July 2004 and was a member of Southwest Conference of Basketball, Football and Baseball.

 

He loved his family and church family. He will have pain no more.

 

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at Rubyville Community Church, with Pastor Calvin Ray Evans and Brian Baer officiating. Burial will be at Owl Creek Cemetery. Friends may call at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home inMinfordfrom 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday and one hour before the service on Monday at the church. Military graveside rites will be conducted by James Irwin Post No. 622 American Legion.
