Marine Killed, Sisters in WAVES

Cpl. Lloyd O. Cooper, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Cooper of Sciotoville, paid the supreme sacrifice on Iwo Jima February 19.
 
He was born June 26, 1921 at Thor in Lewis County.

Louise Cooper, special photographer third class, and Charlotte Cooper, seaman first class, were home on seven-day leaves after the parents received the war department message about the death of the son and brother.

Louise is at the navy barracks at Dahlgren, Va, and Charlotte is based at the motion picture production office, Brooklyn.
 
Another brother, Donald Cooper, is a paratrooper and had a furlough home at the same time as his sisters.

The body of Marine Cpl. Lloyd O. Cooper, son of Ollie and Beulah Cooper of near Minford, is expected to arrive Friday at Erwin Funeral Home at Minford, the parents were notified today.
 
Arrangements for final interment of the 23-year-old marine who lost his life on Iwo Jima February 16, 1945, are incomplete, but the body was expected to be taken to the Cooper residence on arrival.

 Those from a distance who attended funeral rites for Cpl. Lloyd O. Cooper, who was killed on Iwo Jima February 19, 1945, included Senator and Mrs. Harry Davis of Grayson, Mr. and Mrs. Ray E. Cooper, Mrs. Grace Matthewson, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Britt, all of Vanceburg, Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Truitt of St. Paul, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Cotton and children, Kathleen and Kenneth of Ashland, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Smith of Quincy and Mrs. Walter Burton of Grayson
 
The last rites for the marine were held at Minford High School by James Irwin post, American Legion, with Rev. Calvin Smith officiating.

We wish to thank our many friends and neighbors for their kindness and sympathy shown us through the arrival and burial of our son, Cpl. Lloyd O. Cooper, killed on Iwo Jima February 19, 1945.
 
We thank the James Irwin Post American Legion, Minford, Ohio, for their splendid service rendered at the home, the high school auditorium, and at the grave, Rev. Calvin Smith for his consoling words, the Harrison Mills quartet for their beautiful songs, for the beautiful floral tribute, the Edward Erwin funeral home for their splendid service.
