Land for Pool at Minford is Donated
The Portsmouth Times, February 27, 1970

Plans to build a community swimming pool at Minford went forward today as a group of citizens accepted a gift of four and a half acres of land for the site.

Tom Stewart, president of the Maple Park Swim Club, said that Mr. and Mrs. Stephen vonBakonyi have given the community land at the south end of Minford at the underpass on old Route 335 to be used for the pool area,

Stewart said a drive to sell stock in the pool program now is under way and is to extend to the middle of March.  The club hopes to be able to let contracts for the pool estimated to cost about $45,000.

Stewart said the pool should be in operation by mid June.  The 150-family pool is to be built with revenue from the stock sale,  Stewart said and an annual fee will be charged for upkeep geared to the cost of the operation.  Purchasers of stock will be entitled to pool memberships, Stewart said.

Serving with Stewart on the community pool are:  Don Pfleger, 1st Vice President; Pat Bennett, 2nd Vice President; Cebert Newsome, 3rd Vice President;  Mrs. Gerald Bennett, secretary; Paul C. Campbell, treasurer.
