Maralyce Williams Newberry, 83, formerly of New Boston, died Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at Hill View Retirement Center.

 She was born November 23, 1927, in Akron, a daughter of the late Horace and Hazel Reid Williams.

 She was a lifelong active member of First Church of God in New Boston serving as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, WCG treasurer, and church treasurer.

 She served as a former president of the Scioto Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, a former board member for Portsmouth Receiving Hospital, and participated with the Girl Scouts, Friends of Hospice, SSU Golden Bears, and the New Boston Community Development Group. Maralyce was a graduate of Montclair High School in Montclair, New Jersey, and Ohio University, as well as attended Western College for Women. She married Jesse Newberry on Aug. 23, 1947 and moved to New Boston where she taught at Minford High School and later co-owned and managed Newberry's Department Store in New Boston until its closure in 1979.

 Maralyce is survived by one son; William L. Newberry of Richmond, VA; two daughters, Cheryl Bertschm an and husband Chuck of Degraff, Ohio, and Elaine Evans of New Boston; one sister, Elaine Foreman of Lancaster, PA; six grandchildren, Heather (Charlie) Coppel, Ryan (Rachel) Bertschman, Laura Newberry and Wes King, Lesley (Alex) Chermside, Alexandra (Kyle) Clark, and Samantha Evans; six great grandchildren, Xavier Coppel, Morgan Coppel, Ethan Coppel, Noah Bertschman, Katie Bertschman, and Makenna Clark. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Newberry on June 11, 2009, one sister, Audrey Gregg, and a grandson, Kyle Bertschman.

 Services will be 11 AM Saturday, January 29, 2011, at First Church of God in New Boston, with Pastor Acy Gibson officiating.

 Burial will be at Waring Cemetery in Garrison, Ky.

 Visitation will be Friday 5-8 PM at D.W. Swick Funeral Home in New Boston and Saturday 10-11 AM at the church.
