Rev. Julius Chandler

The Rev. Julius Richmond Chandler, 84, a former Minford area resident, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at Southern Ohio Medical Center. Born January 20, 1919, in Adams County, Ohio, a son of Samuel Drenan Chandler and Clara Lovina Richmond Chandler, he lived most of his life in Scioto County. He was a Methodist minister for 59 years having server the Cheshire Charge, Proctorville Charge, The Town and County Commission Portsmouth District, Minford Charge, Long Run Charge, Lucasville Charge, Blue Run Charge and the Scioto Valley Parish Portsmouth District.
He attended Rio Grande College, graduated from Marshall University and Asbury Seminary. He also served as a member of the Minford and Rubyville Volunteer Fire Departments, served on on the Scioto County Human Services Board, and was the Scioto County "Fair Preacher" for many years.
He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Danny (Helen) Flowers of Lucasville, Mrs. Morris (Lynda) Gullion of Waverly, Mrs. Keith (Ginny) Banks of Lucasville, Mrs. David (Angela) Yeagle of Lucasville; two sons, Timothy Chandler of Belleview, Fla., and William Delbert McFarland of Oregon; 13 grandchildren; David Flowers, Danette Tackett, Chad Gullion, Tyler Gullion, Jay Gullion, Doug Banks, Kelly Banks Coldiron, Kevin Banks, Philip Yeagle, Lydia Yeagle, Brandy Chandler, Jeffrey Chandler, and Maggie McFarland; eight great-grand children; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Grace O. Gulley Chandler, whom he married September 2, 1939; three brothers, Luther P. Chandler, Samuel D. Chandler and John D. Chandler; five sisters, Ardona, Louva, Bess, Virginia and Anna Elizabeth.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at Rubyville Community Church in Rubyville, with Pastor Calvin Ray Evans, Pastor Phil Howard and Pastor Chad Gullion officiating. Burial will be in Scioto Burial Park at Rushtown. Friends may call at the Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Rev. Julius Chandler to the church of your choice.
