Roy R. Pfleger
June 15, 1909 - July 20 1969

Roy R. Pfleger, 60 of Minford, died Sunday in Mt. Carmel Hospital in Columbus.

A native of Scioto County, and a school teacher for 30 years for for the past 27 years he had taught math in Minford schools and also operated a farm on White Grave Road.

He was a member of White Grave Community Church, taught the Adult Bible Class, and was known throughout the area for teaching at church homecoming meetings.

Pfleger had been a professional baseball player and first starred with Ohio University.  He then went to Huntington, West Virginia to the Appalachian League and in 1933 and 1934 played with Beaumont, Texas in the Texas League.  From 1935 to 1938, he played shortstop with the Minneapolis Millers in the AAA League.

In 1938, Pfleger was second in home runs, when the league was led by a teammate, Ted Williams.

He also played on the West Coast for Sacramento and later managed the Hamilton, Ontario, Canada team.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Branscomb Pfleger; a son, Don, of Minfort Rout 2; a daughter, Mrs. Betty Hardyman of Nitro, West Virginia; three brothers, Floyd and Earl, both of Minford and Elmer of Lucasville; a half sister, Mrs. Maude Swartz of Springfield, and four grandchildren.

Funeral services are to be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at White Gravel Community Church, with Rev. Tracy Potts officiating.  Burial is to be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.  Friends may call at Erwin-Dodson Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Tuesday, and at the church one hour before services.
