Vancil I. Rase, 63, of Minford, died Saturday, March 3, 2007, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.

 Born Feb. 17, 1944, in Portsmouth, a son of the late Lewis Earl and Minnie Hazel Dixon Rase, he was a custodian for Minford Local Schools and an EMT for Minford Squad 3. He founded Buckeye Mountain Search and Rescue and was of the Pentecostal faith.

 He is survived by his wife, Rosalee Curtis Rase; four daughters and sons-in-law, Angelia (David) Schaeffer, Milisa (Eric) Liles, Cathy (Alan) Duckson, Kristy Hoover and her fiance, Bill Bussler, all of Minford; 15 grandchildren to whom he was "Grandad", Billy, Shawna, Lane, Katie, Jaydell and Josiah Schaeffer, Micaela Liles, Kimberly Shigley, Kelly Pierson, Coey Duckson, Kennedy Duckson, Allison Hoover, Deanna Hoover, Makayla Bussler and Holly Bussler: and numerous other loved ones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jody Lee Pierson, and a brother Anton Rase.

 Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at Erwin-Dodson- Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Danny Thompson officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday.

 The family would like to thank the staff of SOMC, DCI, Home Care, and Life Ambulance for the care Vancil received during his extended illness.
