Willis Ben Shumway, 89, of Minford, died Sunday, April 6, 2008, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth.

Born Sept. 9, 1918, in Minford, a son of the late George and Nellie G. Mahaffey Shumway, he was employed by Minford Local Schools as a bus driver and later also as a grounds keeper, retiring with 37 years of service. He also was a self-employed carpenter and craftsman.

A graduate of Minford High School in the class of 1937, he was a Deacon and member of Sunshine Church of Christ.  

He is survived by his wife, Macie Havens Shumway, whom he married on Oct. 24, 1942; two sons, David (Karin) Shumway of Cleveland, Dwight Shumway of Columbus; two daughters; Mary Lee Justice of New Boston, Debbie (Terry) Sullivan of Portsmouth; eight grandchildren, John Shumway, George Shumway, Tim Justice, Judy Myers, Jennifer Young, Shelia Kropp, Stephanie Copas, Jessica Sullivan; and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Doris Like, Averill Havens, Enid Schomburg, Janice Shumway, Effie Cooper; and one brother, Bernard Shumway.  

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at Sunshine Church of Christ with Steve Miller, minister officiating. Burial will be in Bennett Cemetery. Friends may call at the Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and one hour before services Wednesday at Sunshine Church of Christ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
