Important Announcement Regarding Graduation and Prom

Minford High School Graduation 2020

Overview

The Minford Local School District Graduation Committee believes that the combination of the recent publication of the White House “Opening Up America Again” Guidelines, and the decision by Governor DeWine to close Ohio’s School Buildings through the end of the school year, make holding a traditional graduation ceremony during early summer of 2020 improbable. In order for transcripts to be available for colleges, universities, the military, trade schools, and employers, the district will hold a “Limited Contact Graduation” on May 24, 2020.

Limited Contact Graduation

The limited contact graduation will take place on Sunday, May 24, from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm.  The graduation ceremony will consist of the graduate having his/her name read by Mr. Pica.  The graduate will walk across the stage and receive his/her diploma from a cart where it will be placed by the Board President.  The graduate will then have his/her picture professionally taken.  The graduate will be witnessed by up to four members of his/her immediate family.  A video of each graduate will be taken and combined together along with speeches, award announcements, etc to create a full graduation ceremony video that will be presented to each graduate upon completion available to view online or a DVD mailed to them by request.

More guidance on procedures will be mailed home 2 weeks prior to graduation.

Traditional Ceremony and Prom

While improbable, Minford High School will remain optimistic and prepared to host Prom and Traditional Graduation Ceremonies in July if permissible by the Governor of the State of Ohio. If permitted, Prom will be held on July 17, 2020 and Graduation on July 19, 2020. Plans are being made for both of these events to be held either indoors or outdoors.

The decision to hold traditional Prom and Graduation Ceremonies will be made by July 7, 2020

Planning for Limited Contact Graduation

-Graduates and family will be lined up outside of the north side of the gymnasium.  The line will extend from the gym entrance back toward the auditeria and around to the board office.  (lines can be marked or taped at 6 foot intervals)

In the event of inclement weather, lines will be taped in the hall at 6 foot intervals or more down from the gym to the back hallway and then down the academic wing.

We will separate the senior class into groups of 20.

-Mr. Pica will be recorded giving remarks.

-The finished video of the graduation ceremony will be made available online and those that request it, may have a DVD copy mailed to them.

Planning for July Prom and Graduation

If it appears we may be able to host Prom and Graduation in July, we need to plan for inside or outside graduation.

If indoors, Prom will have limited decorations as the floor will have recently been resurfaced.

If outdoors, Grand March can take place along the pavement in front of the stadium and the dance can occur off of the game field in the open around the flagpole and scoreboard.

Graduation will proceed as normal if held indoors.

If held outdoors, plans will need to be made in June for placement of the stage, graduates, and fans.
