Highlights of the August 15, 2002, Regular Meeting
of the Minford Local Board of Education
Recognition of retiring District Maintenance Supervisor, David Smith,
was the first action taken as Board President, Joe Stockham presented
a plaque to Dave. He is wished the best in his retirement.
Superintendent Meade discussed the possibility of receiving a Naval
Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program for the high school as
the Navy is expanding their number of programs offered.
Also discussed was the need to have additional temporary help for the
new building this year. A three-hour part-time as-needed position
will be posted. The custodial needs will be reviewed as the entire
K-8 building is completed.
The Teen Tobacco Education Program was discussed as an alternative
to suspension grades 6-12.
The registration process and results were discussed regarding the Ohio
School Boards Association Statewide Conference.
Dr. Tracy Alley was recognized as the Red Cross Educator Honoree for
her work and honors received in the field of education. |
In action, the Board:
- Employed substitutes for most areas.
- Approved certified personnel for home instruction.
- Recognized John Strickland and Kyle Copley as Volunteer Assistants
for golf. Also recognized Levi Gilliland and Kevin Lloyd as
Volunteer Assistants for high school football.
- Employed Erica Donahoe as Jr. High Girl's Basketball Coach.
- Accepted Student and Teacher Handbooks.
- Employed Cathy Scott and Brenda Boston, as three-hour handicapped
student aides.
- Adjusted the salaries of Melanie Jayne B.A. + 15 and Angie Turner,
M.S. + 15 to reflect additional coursework.
- Employed Christopher Downey as District Maintenance Supervisor.
- Approved a change order for an air flow station.
- Approved participation in the Scioto County Teen Tobacco Education
Program.
- Set a work session with no action to be considered for September
14, 2002, at 6 p.m. in the tiered room at the high school.
The next regular meeting will be September 23rd at 6 p.m. in the high
school Media Center.
