BOARD PLANS FOR FUTURE
Option Taken on Minford Area Parcel
The Minford Board of Education has acquired 36.297 acres of
the Dr. A. P. Hunt farm, a quarter of a mile northeast of Minford on Route 335
and Bond Road for a five-year period with the right to purchase at any time
during this period. Formerly a part of
the Lou Poole farm, the parcel has a frontage of 580 feet on Route 335 with
access from three directions.
A spokesman for the board explained that the option was
taken in view of the fact that the state plans to construct a 680-acre lake and
a 2,000 acre park three miles northwest of Minford.
The board deemed it imperative to look forward in future
school development with the expected recreational and industrial development
that may originate with the lake.
Everett Burton, county prosecutor, drew up the option for
the board and the survey was presented by William Burch, county engineer. Attorney Ralph Stephens negotiated the option
for Dr. Hunt.
The board said that future population growth and the program
of the State Department of Education would determine the use of the land.
