He was born April 5, 1930, to the late Warren and Myrtle (Claxon) Etterling.

Carl was retired from Goodyear Atomic Corp. He also had been employed by S.O.C.F., Detroit Steel Corp. and Williams Shoe Factory.

Carl is survived by his wife of 61 years, Delores Jean Snyder Etterling. Also surviving are three daughters, Karen (Dan) Stevens of Daytona Beach, Fla., Denise (Brian) Snyder of Wheelersburg and Carla Clements of Greenview, Ill.; a son Brian Leslie (Rhonda) Etterling of Canal Winchester, Ohio; a brother Harold (Ann) Etterling of Arizona.

Carl was a grandfather to seven grandsons, Scott Stevens, Mike Stevens, Chris White, John White, Joshua Hartley, Lee Etterling and Chad Etterling, and one granddaughter, Caitlyn Etterling. He also had eight great-grandsons, Chevez Stevens, Noah, Ethan and Andrew Stevens, Dominic Reyes, Hayden Hartley, Christian White, and Maddix White; and five great-granddaughters, Halle Stevens, Gracie Stevens, Raygan Reyes, Madyson Hartley and Beth Etterling.

"Papaw Carl" will be greatly missed by all his grandchildren but especially by his two "best buddies" Christian and Maddix.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23, 2010, at the Swick-Bussa-Chamberlin Funeral Home in Wheelersburg, with Pastor Bryan White officiating, with interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call Monday beginning at 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
