Carmi Quentin Sturgill
March 12, 1926 - January 19, 2019
Carmi Quentin Sturgill, 92, died Saturday, January 19, 2019, at his home in Bowie following an extended illness.
Mr. Sturgill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carole Ann (Braun) Sturgill; his son Douglas Sturgill of Bowie; his son Robert Sturgill and his wife Linda of Bowie; his granddaughter Alicia Gaiser of Sterling, Virginia; and two great-grandsons, August and Axel Gaiser of Sterling, Virginia.
Upon graduation from Minford High School in Ohio in 1944, Mr. Sturgill volunteered to serve in the United States Army Air Force Aviation Cadet Program from which he was discharged in 1945.
After graduating from Ohio State University in 1949, he began his civil service career with the U.S. Air Force. He served as a logistics management specialist at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, Norton AFB in California, and Andrews AFB in Maryland. He completed his career with the Office of Manned Space Flight, Space Shuttle Program Washington, D.C. Office, from which he retired in 1978.
Mr. Sturgill earned his private pilot certificate in 1946, was an avid fan of airshows, and had been a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association. He also enjoyed boating, camping, and traveling.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019, at Grace Lutheran Church, 2503 Belair Drive, Bowie, Maryland. Visitation at the church will begin at 1:00pm, followed by a memorial service at 2:00pm. A private interment will take place at the Crownsville Veteran's Cemetery at a later date.
