Charles W. Rucker, age 76, of Lewis Center, formerly of Sunbury, died Monday, September 29, 2008.
Born September 15, 1932, in Rush, Ky., to the late Curtis and Goldie (Fannin) Rucker.
A graduate of Minford High School, Class of 1950.
Korean Conflict US Army Veteran and a retired Sergeant with The Ohio State University Police Department with 25 years of service retiring in 1988.
Member of the Sunbury Christian Church and FOP Lodge No. 9. Charles was a leader who was always in charge. If there was a project to be done he worked at it until it was complete.
He enjoyed gardening and canning the harvest from his garden to be enjoyed in the winter months. He also loved to cook using the fresh vegetables to make soup and sauces for his family and friends. He loved fishing, dogs and doing things for others.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara (Davis) Rucker and they were married November 19, 1955 in Columbus; sons, Gary and Daniel Rucker, both of Columbus; daughter, Sherry Cook of Columbus; grandsons, Kyle Hickey and Ryan Rucker; sisters, Cheryl Moulton of West Portsmouth, Phyllis Pate of Portsmouth, Geraldine (Jerry) Harris of Titusville, Fl.
Preceded in death by brothers Dale, Leonard, Kenneth, Bert, George and sister Alice Williams.
Friends may call Thursday from 5-8 p.m., DeVORE-SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury, where service will be Friday 10 a.m. with Pastor Greg Bondurant officiating.
