Dennis E. Rider, 78, of Sciotoville, died Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at SOMC Hospice.
He was born March 3, 1932, in Portsmouth, a son of the late Gaylord C. Rider and Goldie Spray Rider.
Dennis was a 1949 graduate of Minford High School, a graduate of the Ohio State University, retired from the U.S. Navy and Construction Inspection Corporation as owner and operator, a member of the K of C in New Boston and was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Carole Jane Poole, whom he married Nov. 21, 1976, in Portsmouth; one son, Michael Rider and wife Gina of Athens, Ohio; one daughter, Gail Law and husband Mark of Pickerington, Ohio; three stepsons, Eric Harris of Wheelersburg, Stephen Harris and wife Brenda of Wheelersburg, and Benjamin Harris and wife Terah of Minford; two stepdaughters, Polly Hawk and husband Brian of Logan, Ohio, and Carole Consiglio and husband Tony of Franklin, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Vinnie Rider, Mitch Rider, Danielle, Kristin, Jeremy, Breslyn, Zach, Courtney, Ryan, Casey, Mason and Matthew.
He was also preceded in death by an infant brother. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted 10 a.m. Monday, May 10, 2010, at St. Monica Catholic Church in New Boston, with Father Joseph Yokum officiating, with interment at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg, with military graveside rites by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Swick-Bussa Chamberlin Funeral Home in Wheelersburg.
