Pvt. Donald Hutchinson Dies In Combat
 
Announcement was made by the Department of Defense today that Pvt. Donald L. Hutchinson of Bonser Run made the supreme sacrifice in combat in Korea.
 
Pvt. Hutchinson was a son of Mrs. Esta Hutchinson and was born in Sciotoville.  He attended Bonser Run school.
 
A brother, Rexel, is an employee of the Betsy Ross bakery here.  A married sister also resides in this area.
 
The Department of Defense also announced that another Scioto County soldier is among the wounded.  He is Pvt. Roy R. Gordon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gordon of Lucasville Route 1.
 
Pfc. Realby Wiley, reported wounded May 30 in Korea has been awarded a Bronze Star Medal for service with the 2nd Infantry Division.
 
Pfc. Wiley and two other soldiers were the only survivors of 10 Americans in an operation at the front.

Local Body Returned
 
The Department of Defense announced today the arrival at San Francisco of the bodies of 615 Americans from Korea.
 
Included were the bodies of Pvt. Donald L. Hutchinson, son of Mrs. Esta Hutchinson of Portsmouth Route 4; Elmer E. Dress, son of Lowel Dress of Wellston; and Pfc. Russell L. Kneisley, son of Oscar Kneisley of Peebles Route 1.

Funeral services with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday for Pvt. Donald Lee Hutchinson, 21, of 5332 Coolidge Avenue, Sciotoville, who was killed in action in Korea on May 27, 1951.
 
James Dickey Post American Legion is in charge of the funeral.  Services will be held at Sciotoville Christian Church with Curt Hess, minister, officiating.
 
Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Gill Funeral Home.  The body is at the residence, 5332 Coolidge Avenue.
 
Pvt. Hutchinson was born April 17, 1928 on Bonser Run, a son of Logan and Esta Boggs Hutchinson.  He was educated in Minford schools sand worked in the National Sheet & Tube Steel Company Mill in Lorain prior to entering the service in September, 1950.  He was trained at Camp Atterbury, Indiana and was sent to Korea in January of 1951.
 
Pvt. Hutchinson is survived by his mother and brother, Rexel at home; his father, address unknown, and a sister, Mrs. Kathleen Bentley of South Portsmouth.
 
 
 
 
Private Hutchinson was a member of Company E, 5th Infantry Regimental Combat Team.   He was killed in action while fighting the enemy near Sabghongjong-ni, North Korea on May 27, 1951.

Private Hutchinson was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously and the Combat Infantry Badge.
