PORTSMOUTH - Dorothy R. Oberling of Portsmouth, a resident of Hillview, died Friday, February 6, 2015 at Hillview Retirement Center. She was born in Scioto County, the daughter of the late William and Bessie Haywood Riggs. Dot was a graduate of Minford High School, a former employee of Good Shepard Manor, lifetime member of SOMC Auxiliary, a volunteer for The Salvation Army and American Cancer Society, and a member of St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Oberling, one brother Paul R. Riggs, two sisters Helen Rockwell and Jo Ann Martin. Surviving Dot are three sisters Garnet Gulker of Green Acres, Florida, Jessie Staker of Wheelersburg, Julia Cunningham of Wheelersburg, and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at St Peter in Chains Catholic Church with The Rev. Joseph Yokum officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to SOMC Hospice, St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church or .
