Earnest "Red" Pinson Jr., 72, of Marysville, formerly of Wheelersburg, died Saturday, July 21, 2007, at Memorial Hospital of Union County in Marysville.
A longtime farmer and a retired trainmaster, he was associated with New York Central, Penn Central and Conrail railroads throughout his career. A skilled mechanic, he loved to maintain all kinds of vehicles and was especially fond of Ford trucks. He enjoyed fishing and going to auctions, always looking for old tools and railroad memorabilia.
He was a graduate of Minford High School. In 1957, he enlisted with the Ohio Air National Guard and upon discharge, served with the U.S. Air Force Reserve, where he was called to active duty for the Berlin airlift.
He was born Dec. 18, 1934, in Wheelersburg, Ohio, to the late Earnest and Hester Pratt Pinson Sr., and also was predeceased on April 2, 2004, by his wife, Elsie M. "Maggie" Wright Pinson; two sisters, Charlotte Lemon and Dorothy Steiger; a brother, Orville Pinson; and a niece, Jean Kress.
He is survived by his children, Karen (Bob) Paver and Judy (Darrell) Strauch, both of Marysville, Patricia Hoosier, of Texas, Cindy (Jay) Payne, of Massachusetts, and Scott (Karen) Pinson, of Indiana; 12 grandchildren, Danielle Hakola, Eddie Paver, Kristina Paver, Kristin (Jim) Damske, Jessica (Jeff) Adams, Thomas Payne, Ryan Payne, Toni Strauch, David Strauch, Cassandra Strauch, Jacob Pinson and Megan Pinson; six great-grandchildren, Briana, Jordan and Krista Damske, Riley and Samantha Adams, and Maggie Hakola; a sister, Nora (Bob) Fenton, of Florida; three brothers, Jay (Eleanor) Pinson, of California, Lester (Chris) Pinson, of Pataskala, and Raymond (Curline) Pinson, of Wheelersburg; his mother-inlaw, Alice M. Tidrick, of Columbus; two brothers-in-law, Clarence "Sherman" (Debbie) Wright, of Columbus, and Jack (Shirley) Bogard, of Pennsylvania; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Bogard, of Delaware, Ohio; and many other relatives.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at Pharisburg United Methodist Church. Rev. Maurice Dunn will officiate and burial will be in Claibourne Cemetery with military honors. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Underwood Funeral Home in Marysville.
