Effie "Mackey" Shumway Gammon Cooper, 79, of Portsmouth, OH, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002 at Southern Ohio Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 13, 1923, in Minford, the daughter of the late George A. and Nellie G. Mahaffey Shumway. She was a member of Sciotoville Christian Church.
She was a former Williams Manufacturing Employee, and a cook at Harding Elementary in Sciotoville, where she was known as Granny.
Surviving are her husband, Marvin V. Cooper of Portsmouth; one son: Eddie Shumway and his wife, Nancy of Portsmouth; one sister: Enid Schomburg of New Boston; one brother: Willis Shumway of Minford; three grandchildren: Dana Lambrick and her husband, Mark, Daren Shumway, Dustin Shumway; Great-Grandchildren: Elisha Angel, Josh Shumway, and Christopher Lambrick, and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a husband, Glen Gammon; sisters: Doris Like, Janice Shumway, Avrill Havens; brother: Barney Shumway; and infant brother: Ray Harley Shumway, and a granddaughter: Dawn Shumway.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002 at the D. W. Swick Funeral Home in Wheelersburg, with Art Marcum, minister, officiating. Burial in Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sciotoville Christian Church Building Fund.
