Homer Eugene Miller, 89, of Portsmouth, went to be with the Lord Friday, January 27, 2012, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren, Ohio. He was born February 25, 1922, in Sciotoville. Homer was preceded in death by his parents, Frank W. and Bessie C. (Gampp) Miller and one brother, Paul, in infancy.
Homer was a member of Sunshine Church of Christ in Minford his entire life and devoted many years of service to the Lord as a deacon there. He spent his working life as a farmer and self-employed carpenter, having built 22 houses in the area. A generous and caring man, he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His family was so important to him, and he spent many loving hours with them.
Surviving is his wife of 69 years, Geneva Lavender Miller; one daughter, Judy (David) Hinze of Bristolville, Ohio; three grandchildren, Brian Hinze of Niles, Ohio, Jason Hinze of Warren, Ohio, and Aaron Hinze of Lawrenceburg, Indiana; one great-granddaughter, Megan Hinze; three sisters, Alma Coriell of Wheelersburg, Lorraine Howell of Columbus, and Norma Jean Fannin of Lancaster.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at Sunshine Church of Christ in Minford with Steve Miller and Jamie Riley officiating. Burial will be in Batterson Cemetery. Friends may call at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
