JAMES YOUNG
October 12, 1955 - January 21, 2016

James Daryl Young "Jim", 60, 1975 graduate of Minford High School, passed at his residence in Minford on January 21, 2016, where he resided with his wife of 39 years, Terri Jean Gilliland Young, they were married, November 4, 1976. She is the daughter of Russell & Sarah Kallner Gilliland & neice of Ruth Kallner White (Aunt Ruthie). He has two sons, Shaun Michael (Irish) Young who also resided in the home with him. Daryl James Young of Va.

Jim and Terri are the grandparents of six grandchildren, Eric & Bryanna Young of New Boston, Ashleigh, Matthew Young (papaws buddy) & Bre Winters children of Don & Laura (like a daughter) Wells Winters (Jim's best friends) of Portsmouth, Allyson Young of Wa. Jim was born Oct 12, 1955 in Portsmouth, Ohio. He was the son of the late Felix Young Jr. & Nellie Parker Young of Minford.

Jim is survived by 1 brother, Mike (Cheryl) Young of Owingsville, Ky; Parents of two children (niece) Tina (David) Young Lautzenhiser parents of five children Elizabeth, Victoria, Audry, Jimmy & Neilesha of Paris, Ky.; nephew, Michael (Sharon) Young, parents of two children, Amanda Young & Christina Young mother (of Lily Young of) Farmers Ky.; one sister-in-law, Tisha Gilliland Mizer of West Carrollton, Oh., mother of (nephew) Kyle (Lori) Gilliland of Miamisburg Oh.; one brother-in-law, Douglas Gilliland of Minford; sister-in-law, Penny Mault Gilliland of South Webster, parents of (neice) Jessica (Cody) Gilliland Compton of Minford & (neice) Amy Gilliland of Minford.

Jim was a member of Sunshine Church of Christ in Minford, Ohio. Minister Steve Miller (who baptized Jim, also close friend who visited weeky) & Jason Coriell deacon and Hospice clergy, who also visited weekly with communion. Many others at Sunshine including the children at Sunshine who changed our lives.

Jim and the family want to thank Hill View, John Prose CEO and Melissa Huffman ADON , Terri's place of employment, for their ongoing support through this journey.

Last Jim and the family want to thank his physician, Dr Saab, pulmonologist. Dr. Liu, oncologist at The Portsmouth Cancer Center along with the nurses, Stacy, Traci, Melissa, Cara Jo and Kelly for the excellent care Jim was provided during chemo & Palliative Care nurse, Jenni. And most of all SOMC Hospice for the excellent care provided by Dr. Bonzo, Chad NP, Loren SS & Brent RN. Each one touched Jim's life in a special way. They shared funny stories, sports scores, they truly made the end of our journey together easier. Jim had a passion for animals, he loved wildlife. He was also a huge sports fan, especially Ohio State, Cinn. Reds, the Bengals and NASCAR and of course, Minford Falcons. Jim owned Minford Sports Cards he operated from his home in Minford for 10 years. Jim was a self employed contractor and worked in later years for The Portsmouth Daily Times. Jim fought a good fight. He was diagnosed with a rare aggressive hereditary cancer. He responded to treatment much better than expected, given a prognosis of 2 - 12 months that turned into over 2 years, the family credits this to all the support, cards and love given during Jim's last years. Jim got to take his last trip to The Great Smoky Mountains with the family in 2013, thanks to his son Shaun and Aunt Ruthie. He was able to zip line from a bridge in the mountains, one of his dreams. He held his arms like a bird, one of the happiest moments in his life.

Jim had a tuxedo cat, Patrick and a black and white cocker spaniel, Freckles who were faithful pets until the end. They stayed right with him day and night. Slept with him, never left his side.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 25, 2016 at Sunshine Church of Christ with Steve Miller and Jason Coriell officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Burial Park. Friends may call at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. In lieu of flowers you can donate money to Sunshine Church of Christ, SOMC Hospice, Hill View Retirement Center, SACS or any wildlife conservative.
