JEFFREY McGLONE

Jeffrey "Jeff" Leon McGlone, of Covington, passed away at the age of 50 on Oct. 20. He was born at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Fairborn, Ohio, on May 7, 1965. He graduated from Minford High School in Minford, Ohio in 1983, where he played football and basketball and ran cross-country. He went on to earn a degree in plastic engineering from Ohio University.

A Covington resident since 1999, Jeff was an avid fan of the eight-time national champion Ohio State University football team and the five-time Super Bowl champion Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed barbecuing in his free time. A born-again Christian, who loved God, he coached in the Newton County Youth Softball League for more than a decade and spent seven years as the league's commissioner.

Remembered as a loving and caring son, brother, husband and father, Jeff is survived by his wife of 26 years, Betsy McGlone, of Covington; son, Dane McGlone, of Longview, Texas; daughter, Bryce McGlone, of Covington; mother, Barbara McGlone; and father, Leon McGlone, both of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; sister, Debbie Golden; and brother-in-law, Tom Golden, both of Biloxi, Miss.; and sister, Carrie Vaughan; and brother-in-law, Keith Vaughan, of Birmingham, Ala.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Covington Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jeff's name to the Newton County Youth Softball League, c/o Covington Christian Church, 141 Highway 142, Covington, Ga., 30014.
