Joe Reynolds Killed In Crash On Route 335

The traffic toll in Scioto County rose to 27 early today with the death of Joseph E. Reynolds, 22, of Wheelersburg Rt. 1.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at Mercy Hospital at 4:15 a.m. after the car he was driving ran out of control on Route 335 about 2 miles north of Portsmouth, and struck a tree.

A passenger, Robert Shirey, Jr. 22, also of Wheelersburg Rt. 1 was reported in critical condition today at Mercy.

Twelve persons have been killed this year on Portsmouth streets and 15 on rural highways.

No traffic fatalities have occurred in New Boston. 

A native of Detroit, Reynolds was graduated from Minford High School in 1968.

Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Reynolds; two brothers, Gregory of New Boston and Wesley Brian at home and a sister, Susan at home.

Services are to be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Erwin-Dodson Funeral Home with burial in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 10 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
