She was born July 2, 1947, in Johnson Co., Ky., a daughter of the late Estil and Maude Mullins Hay.

Karen was a retired school bus driver for Clay Local Schools, member of the Candy Run United Baptist Church, and a 1965 Minford High School graduate.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Douglas Franklin whom she married April 22, 1967, in Minford; one daughter, Melissa Dawn (Michael) Goetting of Kannapolis, N.C.; two grandchildren, Mikyla and Mason; three sisters, Marilyn Eldridge of Columbus, Margaret Coldiron of Columbus, and Regina (Rex) McGraw of Minford.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at the Candy Run United Baptist Church, with Arvil Murray Jr. and Dave Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Candy Run Cemetery. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville and from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at the church.
