Leonard R. Niner, 88, of Minford, went to be with the Lord peacefully, on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Best Care Convalescent Center in Wheelersburg  after an extended illness. 

Best known as “Begin”, he was born September 8, 1926, in Scioto County, a son of the late Leonard Niner, Sr. and Katherine (Seibert) Niner.

He was retired after 36 years from Goodyear Atomic/Martin Marietta Corporation.  He was a member of Berean Baptist Church, James Irwin Post No. 622 in Minford,  Veterans of Foreign War  in Sciotoville, and a former member of Minford Volunteer Fire Department.
 
He was a graduate of Minford High School in the class of 1944 and was a World War II Navy veteran. 
 
He is survived by his wife, Alberta “Bert” (Shope) Niner, whom he married on March 27, 1948 in Huntington, West Virginia; a son, Ronald ( Linda) Niner of Minford; a daughter, Linda (Joe) Knapp of Wheelersburg; four grandchildren, Jill (Mike) Mercer of Columbus, Kristi (Bryan) Vallandingham of Sciotoville, Jenny (Nick) Glockner of Wheelersburg, Kevin Niner of Sciotoville; five great grandchildren, Kylie Vallandingham, Ethan Niner, Connor Glockner, Mark Glockner and Alex Mercer.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Lawrence Niner, Willard Niner, and his twin, “Tiny” Kennard Niner; sisters, Clara Shope, Gladys Gears, Margaret Craft, and Irma Turner.

Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Pastors Tim Goodwin and Kevin Gullion officiating.  Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace.  Friends may call at the funeral home from noon until 3:00 p.m. Saturday.  The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Best Care Nursing Home for the great care given to him.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Berean Baptist Church in Sciotoville Ohio.  Military graveside services will be conducted by the James Irwin Post No. 622 American Legion and William Baker Post No. 363.
