Mary "Joan" Lowe, 75, of Portsmouth, passed away Saturday, July 3, 2010, after a long illness.
Born Jan. 20, 1935, in Sciotoville, she was a daughter of the late Bryan and Hazel Adams.
A 1952 graduate of Minford High School, she was active as a cheerleader, majorette and enjoyed participating in chorus.
Throughout her lifetime, she was an avid seamstress, enjoyed swimming, gardening and taking care of her family.
Preceding her in death was her husband of 55 years, Eugene "Gene" Lowe, who died in 2002; brothers, John Hafer of Salem, Oregon, and Roy Hafer of Lucasville; a sister, Daisy Flanigan of Sciotoville and a grandson, Bryan Lowe of Wheelersburg.
Surviving are three sons, Jay Lowe of Ashland, Ky., Steve Lowe of Marion and Tim (Pui) Lowe of Chang Mai, Thailand; two daughters, Cindy (Paul) Downey of Portsmouth and Kim (Craig) Terry of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren, Vanessa and Cassie Downey of Portsmouth, Jeffrey Lowe of Columbus, Jayme Lowe of Ironton, Meagan Will of Ashland, Ky., Shannon Lacy of Houston, Texas, and Kwan Lowe of Chang Mai, Thailand; and seven great-grandchildren, Hayleigh Downey, Raymond Takahashi, Olivia Hightower and Mylee "Jo" Gleim, all of Portsmouth, Briana Lowe of Ironton, and Isaiah and Laney Will of Ashland, Ky. Joan also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, as well as her loving dog "Josie".
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Brant Funeral Home in Portsmouth. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
