Raymond E. Jarvis, 85, a long-time resident of Blacklick, Ohio, died April 14, 2012, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.
He was born to the late Earcle and Avanelle Jarvis on July 6, 1926, in New Boston, Ohio.
Ray graduated from Minford High School in 1944 and The Ohio State University in 1951.
After serving proudly in the Army Air Corps during WWII, Ray married Jean Jarvis in Kansas City in 1948. They remained married for nearly 40 years and had six children.
Ray retired from JC Penney in 1986.
For many years a devoted community volunteer, he served as a volunteer firefighter for Jefferson Township, was Jefferson Township Trustee, VFW Post 4719 Commander, and USO Treasurer, among others.
Ray was preceded in death by his son, Jeff and long-time friend, Libby Ingram, and is survived by three sons; Greg (Nola), Mike (Carole), and Chris (Linda); and two daughters; Becky (Jim) Whittington and Laurie (Craig) Philips; brother, Charles (Mary); daughter-in-law, Donita Cotter; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
His beloved nephew, Chuck Jarvis, and niece, Becky Reed Jarvis, were with him at the end. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday May 12, 2012, at the Schoedinger Northeast Chapel 1051 E. Johnstown Rd. (at Beecher Rd) Gahanna.
