ROBERT "BOB" PATTERSON
March 5, 1949 - March 9, 2017

PORTSMOUTH — Robert "Bob" Patterson, 68, of Portsmouth went to be with the Lord Thursday, March 9, 2017, at the James Cancer Center in Columbus.

He was born March 5, 1949, in Portsmouth, a son of the late Jack Patterson and Hazel Montgomery Callihan.

Bob was a member of Rubyville Community Church where he was a Sunday School teacher and trustee. He was a 1967 graduate of Minford High School, retired from SCCTC as the Heating/Cooling Instructor & Electricity Instructor, was a member of the 173rd Airborne Green Beret in Vietnam, was a bronze star recipient and was especially proud of his service for his country. Bob worked at Economy Heating & Cooling with his father, was a volunteer fireman at Rubyville Volunteer Fire Department, was a Little League and high school softball coach at Clay, and was a major Valley Indian academic and athletic supporter. Bob loved working in his garden; and he loved the Lord, his wife, his girls, his grandchildren and his nieces and nephews more than anything else.

Bob is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Denise Rickey Patterson, and two exceptional daughters, Leslie (Tim) Buckle and Courtney (Darren) LeBrun, all of Lucasville. In addition to these daughters, Bob was like a father to his niece, Tiffany (Jim) Pierson of Ironton, and nephews, Tim (Janeen) Mynes of Lynchburg, VA, and Tom Mynes. He is also survived by a brother, Jack R. (Kay) Patterson of Flatwoods, KY; a sister, Patti (Tom) Hayer of Columbus; his step-mother, Mary Patterson of Wheelersburg; his step-sister, Vicky (Mike) Martin of Scott Depot, WV; and his grandchildren, his special source of pride and joy - Madison, Brooklyn, Natalie and Colten Buckle and Jacob, Kelsey and Eli LeBrun. In addition to these grandchildren, Bob will especially be missed by great-nieces, Cameron Pierson, Mariah (Eli) Kelly, Heather Mynes; great nephews, Cade and Eric Mynes; and by cousins who called him "Uncle Bob," Luke and Jordan Hale. Bob is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends who will miss his smiles, jokes and laughter.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his stepfather, Jack Callihan and sister and brother-in-law, Jackie (Dean) Packard.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2017, at Rubyville Community Church with Pastor Calvin Ray Evans, Pastor Brian Baer and Minister Jeff Chinn officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery at Rubyville Community Church. Friends may call at the church Saturday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Sunday.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by James Irwin Post No. 622 American Legion and William A. Baker Post No. 363. Arrangements are under the direction of Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rubyville Community Church.
