Robert Ray Veach, 75, of Minford, passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2012, at 10 a.m. at his residence. Robert was born May 1, 1936, to the late Gilbert Ray and Edna (Crum) Veach of Sciotoville. Preceding him in death were his brother, Ronald Veach and sisters, Wanda Veach, Delores Joann (Bill) Smith and Helen (Jess) Wheeler.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sharon Blackburn Veach; two sons, Mark (Dee-Anna) Veach of Minford, Craig (Gayle) Veach of Minford; three grandchildren, Sarah and Matthew Veach and Vanessa (Breck) Finzer; and two sisters, Phyllis Howard of Lucasville and Mary (Ferris) Parker of Akron.

Robert was a former A-Plant worker with the Goodyear Atomic Corporation and also worked as a machinist and stationary engineer at the New Boston Coke Plant from where he retired with 40 years of service in 1997.

Robert was a Christian and attended White Gravel Community Church for 43 years where he also served as trustee. He had many hobbies and most of them involved being outdoors. He loved fishing and passed that love on to both of his sons, especially Craig. For many years he enjoyed yearly fishing trips to Canada with his friends and cherished those memories.

As much as Robert loved fishing, what gave him the most enjoyment in life was his family. Family was the most important part of his life. He was extremely devoted to his wife and family, always putting them first. Nothing gave him greater pleasure in life than making pancakes for his grandchildren and spending time with them. His sons were also a constant source of comfort and pride to Robert. He was always there for his family and willing to help them in any way he could. He will always be remembered by them as a kind and compassionate person with a wonderful sense of humor.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2012, at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Pastor Kevin Gullion officiating. Burial will be at White Gravel Cemetery in Minford. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
