Samuel R. Bennett, 85
Samuel R. Bennett, 85, of Minford, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at Four Winds Nursing Center in Jackson.?

Born July 1, 1923, in Scioto County, a son of the late Russell S. and Hazel L. Lockhart Bennett, he was a retired rural mail carrier and self-employed carpenter. Sam was a 1941 graduate of Minford High School, a member of James Irwin Post No. 622 American Legion and a World War II Army veteran. He was a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ every day of his life since 1941.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Fisher Bennett, whom he married on Oct. 27, 1945, in Minford; five sons and daughters-in-law, Ron and Maria Bennett of Minford, Jerry and Debi Bennett of Grove City, Ohio, Tim and Susan Bennett of Minford, Neal and Dinah Bennett of Dillingham, Alaska, and Brian and Anne Bennett of Maumee, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lloyd and Judy Bennett of Okeechobee, Fla., and Ralph and Barbara Bennett of London, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Lou Bennett of Minford; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Ryan Keith Bennett; and one brother, Gerald Bennett.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, at Minford Church of the Nazarene, 260 Bennett Road, with his son Tim Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Bennett Cemetery in Minford. Friends may call at the church from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour before the service Wednesday. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the James Irwin Post No. 622 American Legion.

Arrangements are under the direction of Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford.
