Vancil Franklin Reed

Vancil Franklin Reed, 83, of Minford, passed away Friday, November 14, 2014. Born September 2, 1931 in Scioto County, a son of the late George Franklin and Hazel B. Brame Reed.
He was a 1951 graduate of Minford High School, was a maintenance supervisor at Martin Marietta where he retired in 1994.
He attended Rubyville Community Church, was a member of James Irwin Post 622 American Legion, was a member of Sciotoville VFW #3638 and was a US Navy Veteran in the Korean War and was trained in metalsmithing in the Navy and served aboard the USS Sussex and Jason. During his service he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Metal (1 star), National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the China Service Medal.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Meenach Reed; one son, Rick (Malaka) Reed of Ocala, FL; one daughter, Angela (Keith) Grimm of Roanoke, TX; two step children, Charles Randy Johnson of Columbus and Tamara Matheus of Wisconsin; and four grandchildren, Jacob Grimm, Jenna Marie Grimm, Brooke Matheus and Drew Matheus. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Sexton Reed; and two brothers, Clifford Reed and Charles H. Reed.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Pastor Calvin Ray Evans and Pastor Brian Baer officiating. Burial will be at Bennett Cemetery in Minford. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Military graveside rites will be conducted by James Irwin Post No. 622 American Legion and William A. Baker Post No. 363.
