 NEWMAN WOUNDED, GETS PURPLE HEART

Pfc. Vondon Newman, son of Mrs. Geraldine Hanes, 5727 Glenn Avenue, Sciotoville, was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded in the Korean fighting June 1. 

He is recuperating at a Korean hospital from a hip wound suffered while on patrol duty with the 14th Division.

The 28-year-old soldier has been in service for four months and has served in Korea since April.  In a letter to his mother, he said that he was "doing well."
