Duncan Ends 34 Years in Schools

Minford board of education hired a new executive head in a meeting Thursday night.  It was announced today by Frank Taylor, assistant county school superintendent.

Receive the $8,500 a year position was Edward Hall of Minford.  Mr. Hall, principal of Valley Local High School at Lucasville last year, replaces E. J. Duncan, who resigned after 34 years of service.  Mr. Duncan reportedly resigned to enter business.

Mr. Hall received a three-year contract to head the 52 teachers and the four schools in the Minford school system.  There are approximately 1,300 students enrolled in the district, the assistant superintendent said.

The new executive head first began his teaching career in Scioto County in 1946 at the Madison Township Elementary school.  His first assignment at Minford came in 1947 as a coach.

He retained his coaching position until 1956, when he became principal of the Minford District Elementary Schools.  He filled that post 1 year, and in 1957 he became principal at Minford High School.

In 1959 he resigned his Minford post and moved to Valley Township High school as principal.

Mr. Hall, who resides on Lucasville Route 2, has his master's degree in education from Marshall University where he is presently enrolled for the summer, taking post-graduate college.

He and his wife, Evelyn, who is a teacher in the Madison Elementary school, have a daughter.

Mr. Duncan started teaching in 1924 at McDermott where he served until 1932.  From 1932 until 1934 he taught at Manchester, Ohio.

He came to the Minford school district in 1935 as a coach and teacher, and in 1937 was named high school principal.

Mr. Duncan completed his undergraduate work at Miami (Ohio) University and did his graduate studies at the University of Cincinnati.  He served several years on the scholarship and advisory board of the Ohio Department of Education and is presently serving a term on the auditing committee of the Southeastern Ohio Education Association.

Mr. Duncan is married and has a daughter.
