Minford School To Start Term on September 8
Entire New Faculty for High School; Superintendent from Athens
Teachers Assigned
Contracts Awarded for Coal Supply and Transportation of Pupils
Monday, September 8 is the date set for the opening of the schools in the Minford district. A new faculty has been employed for the high school with Pearley Gaskill of Athens as superintendent, Harry L. Bitzer, principal, Clara Poston and Agnes Gaumer. A. K. Billings was supervising principal of the high school last year.
Elementary teachers are: Ethel Powell, Upper Fairview; Verda Reese, Tick Ridge; Mabel coriell, Minford grade primary department; L. C. Turner Harrison Furnace; Marie Hayward, Bennett's; S. W. Nichols, Sunshine; Roseanna Coles, Mt. Carmel; J. H. Frowine, Stockham; Blanche Jacobs, Harrison Mills; Katherine Rase, Glades; Elnora Parks, Lower Fairview; Ollit Clark, Meades.
The following bids were submitted to furnish coal; R. S. Bennett, W, WV Mountain Globe, $4.50 per ton; W. Va Blue Star $4.90 per ton; H. M. Bennett, Cabin Creek, 4 inch block, $4.75 per ton; Albert Wiehle, White Ash lump $5.35 per ton; White Ash egg, $5.15 per ton; W. T. Bennett, Pocohontas block $5.95 ton; W Va White Ash block $4.85 ton; W Va White Ash egg, $4.70 ton; Edward L. Darrough W Va, Pocohontas egg $5.20 ton; W. Va Pocohontas block $6.75 ton; Wm. Bennett, good lump coat $5.50 ton
The following bids were submitted to furnish transportation within the limit of the Blue run, Back run, Fairview, Stockdale and Piketon roads, J. A. Kennard $98 per month, H. S. Montgomery $119; Elza Montgomery $119.50; Clarence Bennett $120. The contract was awarded to to R. S. Montgomery on his bid of $119 subject to the approval of the state department of education.
John H. Coburn, being the only bidder on the Glendale route, was employed on his bid of $54 per month subject to the approval of the state department.
H. M. Bennett the only bidder on the Bennett's school route was employed on his bid of $50 per month.
Powell and Powell of Minford will handle the books for the Minford district.
