Rosemary Shumway, 84, of Portsmouth, a former Clarktown resident, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth.
Born Aug. 18, 1929, in Blaine, Ky., a daughter of the late Samuel Thomas Sparks and Lula E. (Castle) Sparks Houck, she was a member of Union Free Will Baptist Church.
She was a graduate of Minford High School in the class of 1947 and was the candy lady at Pfleger's General Store in Minford for several years. She was a homemaker and loving mother and grandmother.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Susan E. and Bruce Kongos of Portsmouth; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark S. and Chris Shumway of Galion; nine grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Shumway on Nov. 30, 2005, whom she married on March 21, 1946, in Greenup, Ky., and a brother, Elwood Sparks.
Funeral services will be Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at the convenience of the family with Pastor Don Noel officiating. Entombment will be in Edgewood Abbey at Memorial Burial Park.
