Minford School Head Chosen
V. Leland Gilliland Selected as Supervising Principal by Board

V. Leland Gilliland, for three years principal of the Wheelersburg school has been appointed supervising principal of the Minford schools by the Minford board of education.  The post comes as a promotion to Gilliland following 12 years of school work.  He came from Jackson county.

Gilliland succeeds J. D. McKinley who was recently employed by the the Minford board.  McKinley, who has been teaching in Vinton county, rejected the post after his appointment.  He had been selected to succeed Pearley Gaskill, who was supervising principal of the Minford schools for several years.

Appointment of Gilliland makes two major changes in the Minford school staff this year.  Roy Pfleger, well known athlete, has been appointed coach.  Pfleger coached last season at Petersburg in Jackson county.  The summer he is playing shortstop for the Huntington West Virginia team in the Mid-Atlantic league.  Pfleger succeeds Harry Bitzer who was coach at Minford for a number of years.

A coal contract was awarded by the board to R. S. Bennett on his bid of $3.70 a ton for West Virginia coal.  Dale Burgess was employed as janitor at the high school.
